Software design is similar to architectural design; it helps to explain ideas. A software designer creates software specifications and implementation plans to demonstrate ideas:

• Software Specification explains functionality, interface, interactions and communication possibilities. It demonstrates the designed software to the Client. Software Prototypes are often part of the specification.
• Implementation Plan describes all the above information to the software developers. It defines Software structures, format descriptions, technology information etc.

The Software specification is created as a result of frequent consultations, detailed system analysis, and in-depth planning.

The Software specification tells the client, what will be delivered at the different stages of the developing period.
